Free Sol

Free Sol

These guys are a 4 piece live hip hop/ soul group coming straight from Memphis. They have mad chops and their unmistakable sound will have you bobbing your head for wayyyy more. My advice to you is to listen up now before you look like a fool when they are on the come up. Here is a cut I recently heard and is a free download on their website. Check em out. enjoY!

Free Sol – Don’t Give It Away

Fat Freddy’s Drop

Legit afrobeat, soul, reggae, dub, electronica. These guys are definitely on to something. They deserve a listen so check them out and get their album Dr. Boondigga and the Big BW. Get Funky!

Fat Freddy’s Drop – Boondigga

The Heavy

These cat’s name says it all. This group comes to us out of the UK with a unique style for today’s time. Their technique is very soulful and James Brown-esque with numerous horns and light playful guitar licks. All in all this music is fun but also very real. Listening to the lyrics to How You Like Me Now?, off of their album titled The House That Dirt Built, explains the wanting and desire of a troubled individual. A very real feeling if you have ever wanted something, or someone, you just couldn’t have. Give the song a listen and enjoy this new music movement we are in.

The Heavy – How You Like Me Now?

Vokab Kompany

Coming to you straight from San Diego, this 7 piece live band fuses Hip Hop, Soul, Indie, and Electro into one. They have been lurking in the underground of San Diego for some time but they are on the come up with their new full length album titled The New Kong. You can download the album for $7 on their website and to be completely honest, this is the best $7 dollars I have spent in a while. Just the fact that these guys play with a live band every time they hit the stage is completely impressive. Their groves are gutta and deserve the best reviews possible. Please check them out, you will not regret it. EnjoY!

Vokab Kompany – That Day

Mayer Hawthorne

This guy is bringing back the soul. If you can appreciate great vocals and smooth jazzy instrumentals then this is your guy. All these songs on his A Strange Arrangement album can be sampled, chopped, and skewed to your liking if you are keen on DJ skills. Please give him a listen and purchase his album, it’s raw.

Mayer Hawthorne – One Track Mind

Mayer Hawthorne – Green Eyed Love

Brasstronaut

An interesting name but non the less amazing sound. Their use of brass along with soulful licks are exactly what set these guys apart from the up and coming music. Please give it a listen. I think it is just different enough to be liked.

Brasstronaut – Requiem for a Scene

Da Funk

A mix between Chromeo and Under The Influence Of Giants comes the new age funk wave that is keeping the dance scene alive. These tracks are very well done and emulate so many of the qualities that make funk one of the sickest genres of music. Gentlemen Hall and Illumination are taking things to the next level with a sense of Dance mixed in with their groovy vibe. Give them a listen.

Listen: Gentlemen Hall – Stun Gun

Illumination – Right Time
